NewSouth Publishing is proud to announce the contributors to the forthcoming release of Crip Stories: An anthology of disabled writers, a Mascara Literary Review anthology.
The word crip was once used to discriminate. Today, it is reclaimed and celebrated.
In this remarkable anthology editors BS Windon, Laura Pettenuzzo, Misbah Wolf and Katie Hansord bring together a collection of writing on disability. Each contribution challenges dominant power structures and invites readers to rethink assumptions about disability, identity and belonging. Crip Stories is published in partnership with Mascara Literary Review, with the support of Creative Australia.

'Crip Stories is a collection that foregrounds the wisdom of lived experience. In accordance with the disability justice principle of leadership of the most impacted, it boldly and unapologetically holds space for narratives that have too often been pushed to the margins. Working on this anthology has been a transformative experience, and I am sure that its audience will find that reading it is, too. ' – Laura Pettenuzzo, co-editor
'Crip beingness-crip identities formed and shaped this book you hold- we are not on the margins- we are here, centred, a magnetic invocation of sharing, exploring and interfacing with disabled worlds- come with an open heart and explore our stories- we’re so glad you arrived!' –Misbah Wolf, co-editor
‘Crip Stories stands firmly on the ground of blak and brown work|words, allyship, love, community, reciprocity, disability pride, and sector development strategy marvellously deployed to resist the occlusive gaze of the ‘ablebodymind’. It questions binary categories such as difference and normality, shredding hateful stereotypes with a reinvented language, embracing older writers and vibrant emerging voices, to weave and inaugurate a way forward. Timely and vital, this book is not merely a miracle; it is a prayer.’— Michelle Cahill, author and artistic director of Mascara Literary Review
Crip Stories is a celebration and a call to action: to listen, to learn, and to imagine a more inclusive future. It invites us to rethink the stories we tell about disability and the spaces we create for belonging.
