Authors receive Queen's birthday honours

Congratulations to Catherine Fox and Shirleene Robinson, who have been made Members (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.

Catherine Fox received the award for significant service to journalism, and to gender equality and diversity. Catherine is one of Australia’s leading commentators on women and the workforce. She wrote the Corporate Woman column for the Australian Financial Review for many years and helped establish the annual Westpac/Financial Review 100 Women of Influence Awards. She is the author or co-author of The F Word: How we learned to swear by feminism, 7 Myths about Women and Work and Stop Fixing Women: Why building fairer workplaces is everybody’s business.

Dr Shirleene Robinson received the award for significant service to the LGBTIQ community, to marriage equality, and to history. Shirleene is Senior Curator of Oral History at the National Library of Australia and Honorary Associate Professor of Modern History at Macquarie University. She has published extensively on LGBTIQ history and HIV and AIDS history. She has co-authored the books Serving in Silence?: Australian LGBT servicemen and women, Yes Yes Yes: Australia’s Journey to Marriage Equality and In the Eye of the Storm: Volunteers and Australia’s Response to the HIV/AIDS Crisis.
