Sébastien Galliot is a French anthropologist associated with the Centre for Research and Documentation on Oceania in Marseille, France. He studied ethnology at the University of Provence and at EHESS (Paris), France’s foremost social science research school. His research focuses on Sāmoan traditional tattooing and the contemporary practice of this ritual. Since 2001, he has made several visits to Sāmoa, Tonga and Fiji for fieldwork and archives research. He has published on Pacific and Sāmoan tattooing, and co-curated the Tattoo exhibition that toured to Paris, Toronto, Chicago and Los Angeles. He has exhibited his tattooing photographs and given guest lectures on Sāmoan tattooing in Europe, New Zealand and Sāmoa.
