Peter Burness AM was a head curator and senior historian at the Australian War Memorial for 43 years until 2017. He has been involved in the development of numerous permanent, temporary and travelling exhibitions. With a special interest in the First World War, for 20 years he led annual battlefield tours to the Western Front. Burness has published extensively on Australia’s First World War military history, including his acclaimed book The Nek: A Gallipoli Tragedy. He was the Lambert Gallipoli Fellow, and in 2015 was made a Fellow of the Australian War Memorial.
